Women’s Economic empowerment

Angel of Hope Foundation is providing economic strengthening interventions to vulnerable women thereby improving the economic stability of target households in both rural and urban communities in Zimbabwe. Working through the Traditional Leadership structures under the Ministry of Local Government, Chiefs’ wives have been targeted by the Foundation as icons for impacting positive changes, adaption, uptake and participation in income generating projects (IGPs) which include small livestock production, nutrition gardening, caster bean production and small grain farming. Angel of Hope creates and facilitates linkages for the target groups to access affordable loans. Elsewhere outside of the Traditional Leadership structures, existing and new groups of women have been supported in various economic empowerment projects in such as production of detergents, bakery and confectionary, nutrition gardens, arts and crafts.

Mentorship Program

The Foundation has embarked on a mentorship programme for young women in various industries. This initiative is in line with our objective to empower girls and women from marginalized communities. A pilot project commenced April 2019 in Harare and Bulawayo and will be rolled out to other cities in the country. The mentorship programme was for Young Women in Tourism. The pilot project has seen a group of 50 Young Women in Tourism with disadvantaged backgrounds getting exposure to the tourism industry in support of their career interests, an opportunity they otherwise wouldn’t be privy to. The mentorship and training phase seek to impart the soft skills to improve and employability and entrepreneurship status of the young women.

A version of the same intervention is also being implemented in Chitungwiza, under the Young Africa Vocational Training Centre. This project has seen 25 young women undergo training in the male dominated fields of Plumbing and Motor Mechanics. The signs of high impact and success have already influenced the Foundation to develop an expansion project which started in August 2019.
